A fair number of readers wrote to tell me what the Palestinians actually believe. That is, they looked at a piece of scientific research conducted by two of the most respected research institutes in Jerusalem and Ramallah, saw that it doesn’t confirm their own prior beliefs and decided that it’s made up and that they know more than the experts.

[One criticised in Burston's Haaretz article for dehumanising extremism against Palestinians is Isi Leibler, a former Australian Jewish leader who now writes a personal blog from Jerusalem. Leibler has subsequently had published in Israel Hayom a similarly extreme attack on Haaretz itself, Israel’s oldest daily newspaper, even going so far as to assert: ‘There is sufficient evidence to suggest that in recent years, the newspaper has caused more harm to the image of Israel than the combined efforts of our adversaries’.
