There is much to be said for Qatar’s bridge-building diplomacy, including with Iran. Then along comes Donald Trump, preaching a message not of rapprochement and reconciliation, not of the need for countries that live in the same neighbourhood to share that neighbourhood, but instead a message of militancy, hostility, and isolation.
