Israel accepted the applicability of the Hague Regulations but not the Geneva Conventions (though the Israeli High Court declared both apply) and has effectively annexed portions of the West Bank without a formal legal announcement. But while experts on right and left disagree on the legalities, most believe that the present situation is unsustainable.

Within days of capturing East Jerusalem and the West Bank in the 1967 Middle East war, Israel was examining options about their future ranging from Jewish settlement building to the creation of a Palestinian state. Includes video [first 1:29 of 12:37].
